A strong Indonesian men’s team stormed past Chinese Taipei in the Happening Hyderabad Badminton Asia Team Championships 2016 in men’s team Group MC yesterday.
Although the score read 3-2 for Indonesia, the tie was over by the fourth match. Chou Tien Chen had given Chinese Taipei the lead beating Tommy Sugiarto 25-23 21-16, but World champions Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan levelled the score with a 23-21 21-15 result over Lee Sheng Mu/Tsai Chia Hsin. Anthony Ginting made it 2-1 beating Hsu Jen Hao, and Angga Pratama/Ricky Karanda Suwardi followed up with a 21-19 21-18 result over Chen Hung Ling/Wang Chi-Lin to give Indonesia a 3-1 lead.
Wang Tzu Wei reduced the margin for Chinese Taipei beating Jonatan Christie in the third singles.
In other men’s team ties, Japan beat Sri Lanka 5-0, India beat Singapore 5-0, Malaysia beat Nepal 5-0, Hong Kong beat Philippines 4-1 and Thailand beat Maldives 5-0.
India had a good day as their women also chalked up a 5-0 win over Singapore, while Indonesia’s women enjoyed similar dominance over Maldives.
