The Thomas Cup is the prize awarded for the World Men’s Team Championships, while the Uber Cup is the prize for the World Women’s Team Championships.

The Thomas & Uber Cup Finals is a competition between 16 teams. The hosts and the defending champions are assured of one qualification spot each. Four semifinalists each from the continental team championships of Asia and Europe, and the winners of the continental championships of Africa, Oceania and Pan Am also qualify. The remaining three spots are taken by teams based on their World Ranking.

*If the trophy holder and/or host occupy a qualifying position in their respective continental qualifying tournament, the next one or two highest ranked teams (excluding above) from the World Rankings from the same respective continent would qualify.

In the men’s and women’s team championships, the team’s ranking is the sum of the individual ranking of its top three singles players and top two doubles pairs on a certain cut-off date.

Indonesia are the most successful team in the Thomas Cup with 14 titles, while China are the most successful team in the Uber Cup with 15 titles.
