China Open: Goh/Lai Cherish ‘New Them’

Badminton is a funny game.

A relentless and unforgiving world tour. The pressure valve extreme. Finding the exact science to unlocking that freedom, a nuance that escapes most.

Yet, all of a sudden, one single life event, a change of mindset, or a new hope, can put you back on track. This can be almost as unexpected as the events that took you off course in the first place.

Just ask Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie. Two Olympic cycles where dreams were not fulfilled – bitter disappointment, doubts and a slide in rankings.

Many would have given up, without the belief nor fortitude to search for answers. But somehow, some way, with the help of each other, and as Lai says, perhaps some divine intervention, the Malaysian mixed doubles pair have forged a path of resurgence not many saw coming.

Since accepting their Paris 2024 Olympics fate, the recently wedded couple has won the YONEX Swiss Open 2024 and the PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2024, and today, with one of the most important wins of their careers at the VICTOR China Open 2024, progressed through to their first Super 1000 final on the HSBC BWF World Tour.

Through to a maiden Super 1000 final.

It was clearly emotional, and highly satisfying, for their words spoke truer than most.

“I am Christian, and there is one phrase that I always keep in mind. When one door closes another door opens. And I think we’re seeing that, we have never given up and that has kept us going until today,” said Lai.

“Yes, we are playing free. There is less pressure. We are enjoying it more than ever,” added Goh.

Their new-found lease on tour life has seen them move into the top three of the HSBC Race to Finals rankings, and with today’s result, are now well poised for further riches this season. They were also quick to assure media that they had no intention of stopping anytime soon.

Reflections with the media.

“It’s surreal. It’s a feeling I’ve never experienced before. Now three finals in a year. It’s an unbelievable achievement for us. And I want to thank my partner for helping us keep it together today,” said Lai.

“It’s been one of my dreams to be in a Super 1000 final. I’m almost in tears. We’ve been playing together for six, seven years now, and I’ve always told him [Goh] I’ve wanted this, to make a big final one day.

“Every match we play is one less match in the future, so we just want to appreciate every chance we get on court now, so long as we come out safely without injuries or illness.

“But I think you guys will be seeing us for quite some time still.”

For Goh, it’s quite simple. “It’s all down to mindset.”

“We played well in the pressure points today. We were more comfortable, brave and stable,” he said of the 21-18 21-18 result.

“This is very important for us. Because when we lose our mindset we lose our focus. So that’s been the main key. A stable mindset.”

They will face world No.3 pair Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping in Sunday’s final.

China Open: Lei Turns Tables on Axelsen

What a difference three days makes.

On Sunday, Lei Lan Xi got trounced in the LI-NING Hong Kong Open 2024 men’s singles final by Viktor Axelsen 21-9 21-12. [Read More]

Typhoon Bebinca then ripped through the region causing chaos to flights, forcing Lei and Axelsen to both arrive late to Changzhou. The Olympic champ, in fact, only got in around 8pm last night.

Today then was naturally a much different proposition in their first-round clash at the VICTOR China Open 2024.

An extreme drift from front to back and limited preparation and court acclimatisation for each meant this was a much more intriguing contest.

Lei, whom himself acknowledged he “played much faster today” than compared to Sunday’s final, took the first game 21-19.

In typical Axelsen fashion, the big Dane dug deep despite his unusual sluggishness to take it to a third.

Both players raised the intensity in decider to put on a great show for the Changzhou faithful with Lei triumphing 21-16 to the rapturous applause of fans. Watch the highlights here.

“I think he played a fantastic match. He probably should have won in two games,” Axelsen said post-match.

“We had a few challenges getting here. It would have been great for an evening match for both of us. It was interesting that we had an afternoon match. But no excuses, Lei was the better player and he deserves all the credit.”

On the secret to his form reversal against Axelsen, Lei said: “Maybe it’s more on a psychological level. I dared to go and fight today without any pressure and break through.

“Because I lost to him last week, I made some adjustments and just went for every point. Fight, fight and saving every shot.”

OTHER RESULTS

Dane Julie Dawall Jakobsen fought off late nerves to record the biggest win of her career with a stunning upset of still-injured Tai Tzu Ying 21-19 7-21 21-14.

“I’m a bit overwhelmed. I’m really happy. I’ve played some matches against the best players before but could never really close it out. So, I’m really relieved I could do it today,” she said.

“Even though she isn’t feeling so good physically at the moment she still has many shots to play, so I knew it would be difficult but I’m just happy I stayed in the third game. I was really nervous at the end and I knew I had to place my shots well otherwise she’s just too good.

“It’s a proud moment and this is one of the best victories I’ve had in a long time.”

In another head-turner, Malvika Bansod of India defeated Paris 2024 bronze medallist Gregoria Mariska Tunjung 26-24 21-19 for her biggest victory at a Super 1000 tournament.

WHAT OTHERS SAID

“I’ve been practising together with Ng Ka Long [Angus] these previous two week. We’ve had some good battles in training and most of the time he came out on top. So, I’m happy I could turn that around today. I know he is a tricky opponent, and without disrespecting him, I think he will agree with me that he didn’t have his best day today.” – Anders Antonsen

‘His Story Must be Told’

“I have told his story 500 times and it must be told 500 more times. It’s the most inspiring story I have ever heard,” said former Liverpool Football Club Manager Jurgen Klopp as he spoke to media after watching his friend SL3 player Wojtek Czyz compete on Day 1 of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

“It’s just not normal, especially his sailing story and he didn’t even know how to sail,” said Klopp, referring to Czyz’ five-year sailing trip around the world several years ago. “His story is so inspiring, so special and the world needs to hear it.”

Czyz struck up a friendship with the German manager more than 20 years ago with Klopp heralding Czyz’s ‘crazy story’ to media post-match. The two revived their friendship playing frisbee on a beach before Klopp took over the high-profile role at Liverpool FC and Czyz went sailing around the world with his wife donating prostheses to those who couldn’t afford it.

“I said to Jurgen back then on the beach, ‘Hey, what are you doing here?’. And now all those years later, here we are,” said Czyz.

Czyz is the first player from New Zealand to compete in Para Badminton at the Paralympic Games.

Czyz was a 21-year-old footballer with SC Fortuna Koln when during a match the opposing team’s goalkeeper crashed into him causing multiple fractures and his leg to be amputated.

Not to be stopped, Czyz then went on to have a stellar athletics career, winning gold medals in 100m, 200m and long jump at the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Paralympics, as well as multiple world titles.

After more than a decade of professional athletics, he retired in 2013 and went sailing around the world, ending up in New Zealand, where he and his wife relocated permanently, started a family, and now run a manuka honey farm. Incredibly, he only took up Para badminton three years ago.

Speaking from the Porte de la Chapelle Arena, Klopp said of Czyz’s performance: “I enjoyed watching the match. Well, the seven points that he [Wojtek] won, ha ha ha,” he said jokingly, acknowledging the 21-5 21-2 result against Great Britain’s No.1 seed, Daniel Bethell.

“I sat next to his incredible wife, Elena, and we both had tears in our eyes. Sport can be about results and winning, but there’s much more behind his story. He’s 44-years-old. I can’t get my head around it.

“Yes, he played the best in the world today, but I enjoyed every second of it. We celebrated each point and we kept going. It was pure joy. I couldn’t be prouder of Wojtek and to be here.”

Klopp and Czyz’s wife, Elena shed tears of joy watching Wojtek play on Day 1 at Paris 2024.

Czyz said of the experience: “Maybe it wasn’t the best match to have Jurgen watch me, when you’re playing against the best in the world. I think you’re looking at the gold medallist right there.

“But we’re here to advocate the sport for the future. If we can do something and that gives the next generation access to disabled sport and better support, then that’s great.

“With Jurgen’s presence, I think it’s a great statement that we need for Para badminton and that makes me very proud of him, and I’m really thankful for that.”

For the ex-Liverpool man, being in Paris for the Paralympics and supporting Wojtek is part of his quest to help increase the exposure of Para sports.

“I went to the Opening Ceremony and it was spectacular, like a Taylor Swift concert. I saw China and Brazil with these huge delegations of athletes and I was blown away. I didn’t expect that.

“The greatest stories are in Para sports. I am always trying to watch as many Para events as possible and it’s made easier these days with streaming. The whole thing has been wonderful and I’m just glad to support my friend,” said a smiling Klopp.

Kunlavut Vitidsarn

Viktor Axelsen

Zhao Yunlei (right) with Tian Qing at London 2012 Olympics after winning women’s doubles gold.

Shin Baekcheol.

Zhou Hao Dong and He Ji Ting provided the breakthrough for China.

Akane Yamaguchi kept Japan in the hunt.

Shi Yu Qi took advantage of an under-par Momota.

Chen Qing Chen is mobbed by her teammates after the women’s doubles victory gave the title to China.

Johnnie Torjussen.

Smashing Stats: Denmark Open 2024

Digest these interesting facts about VICTOR Denmark Open 2024, now into its 73rd edition.

  • China are the sole nation with seeds in all five disciplines.
  • They are also the last to complete a sweep in 2014.
  • If they attain glory, Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping will be the first mixed pair since Joachim Fischer Nielsen/Christinna Pedersen in 2009 to win consecutive titles.
  • The world No.2s are one of three defending champions in the draw – Weng Hong Yang and Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik being the others.
  • Mixed doubles is now the event that has gone the longest without back-to-back winners.
  • A successful title defence will make Chia/Soh the first men’s pair from Malaysia in 52 years to triumph twice on the spin. Ng Boon Bee/Punch Gunalan pulled it off in 1972.
  • The men’s doubles podium has not been topped by a Danish tandem following Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen’s victory in 2010 but world No.3s Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen present the hosts the best chance to smash that drought.
  • Viktor Axelsen and Anders Antonsen, meanwhile, have the chance to become the second local star this century (after Peter Gade) to ace men’s singles more than once.
  • This marks An Se Young’s comeback after winning the Paris 2024 Olympic gold. It’s been 37 years since Korea took top honours in women’s singles via Lee Young Suk.
  • Her compatriot Jeong Na Eun, the only player seeded in both, could emulate Ma Jin – the last to win in two departments at the same edition (women’s and mixed doubles in 2012).
  • With a third success, Akane Yamaguchi will be the women’s singles player from Asia with the second most titles after legendary countrywoman Hiroe Yuki, whose fourth victory came in 1977.
  • Starting 2009, no pairs outside China, Japan or Korea have won women’s doubles.
  • China can overtake Denmark on the all-time list with a 19th crown in the sector. They possess two seeded pairs (No.1 Liu Sheng Shu/Tang Ning and No.8 Li Yi Jing/Luo Xu Min), on top of 2023 winner Jia Yi Fan, who competes with new partner Li Wen Mei.

Standout Stat: Reaching another gold medal match would see Huang contest a fourth consecutive final, the most since Yoo Yeon Seong and Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir did the same from 2012-2015.

Huang’s run began in 2021, when she won women’s doubles with Zheng Yu.

Arctic Open: Set Complete, Quest Continues

It’s been an unforgettable eight weeks for Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin, currently the world’s most in-form men’s pair.

It is during this period that they won their first Super 750 (Japan Open), Super 1000 (China Open) and Super 500 (CLASH ROYALE Arctic Open 2024) titles, thus completing the HSBC BWF World Tour set having also bagged two Super 300 crowns previously.

Since the World Tour came into being in 2018, only four men’s pairs have pulled this off – twice Olympic gold medallists Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty and incidentally, Goh/Izzuddin’s vanquished final opponents on Sunday in Vantaa, Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen. In fact, no player or pair from Malaysia, a nation with stellar badminton achievements, have accomplished this feat before Goh and Izzuddin.

Despite this, the duo promised not to rest on their laurels.

“We will continue what we’ve been doing these last few weeks, and that is giving our best in every match,” vowed Goh after the 15-21 21-15 21-19 win over the defending champions.

Title clinched.

The four-point chase-back at 19-17 down to seal the match perfectly embellished how they are currently riding on a huge wave of confidence.

“It was important we didn’t lose faith in each other during that tense period. We kept going and thankfully we won,” said Goh. “It’s been a tiring week. Time for some good food.”

Izzuddin added: “Really difficult matches from the quarterfinal stage onward. We’ve had to be at our best mentally and physically to come through them all.”

Rasmussen was philosophical in his reflection. “It’s down to centimetres and milimetres. That’s just how it is sometimes, you can’t win them all,” said the 35-year-old.

Goh and Izzuddin will now start VICTOR Denmark Open 2024 as hot favourites. Seeded seventh, they open their campaign against Lee Jhe-Huei/Yang Po-Hsuan.

Results (Finals)

WHAT OTHERS SAID

“There’s an ancient Chinese phrase that says it’s harder to keep a country than to get it. Relatably for us, there’s no burden winning a title for the first time but the next one, everyone would have analysed us. It’s on us to be innovative.” – Huang Dong Ping on defending the mixed doubles title

“At the conclusion of the Olympics, we felt like a huge burden was lifted off our shoulders. We were stressed out before going to Paris because there was pressure to perform. After that, we felt very relaxed; we communicated better and that bond brought us closer, helping us understand each other more.” – Thinaah Muralitharan on why she and Pearly Tan have been playing well in recent weeks

“To be honest, never expected to make the final, I had my flight booked for Saturday. It’s difficult competing against younger opponents but I crossed this line so I’m happy with my attitude and spirit.” – Men’s singles winner Chou Tien Chen

Huang and Feng Yan Zhe took 61 minutes to see off Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin.

World Juniors: Kang/Tai End 13-Year Wait

Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai retrieved men’s doubles honours for Malaysia after a 13-year drought, nicking the title from China at the end of a week which had gone the hosts’ way for the most part.

China nevertheless celebrated a successful BWF World Junior Championships 2024, finishing with three titles, and just as significantly, recapturing both singles crowns after eight years.

The only other country to top the podium was Japan, who repeated their success in women’s doubles, with Aya Tamaki winning back-to-back titles.

Men’s singles winner Hu Zhe An

Sensational Skills

The virtuoso skills of the left-handed Tai and the all-round abilities of Kang swung the match for Malaysia, with Tai’s blinding interceptions and unlikely angles opening up the opportunities for the heavy-hitting Kang.

Yet, after the Malaysians had taken the opening game, the Chinese began to leverage their explosive game. Both Hu and Lin put in tremendous bursts from the deep, and they appeared to be coasting along early in the third. But the errors began to creep in as they struggled to maintain that work rate. Lin was playing his second match of the day, and the Malaysians stayed alert for half-chances. They sank to the floor in celebration after converting the fourth of five match points.

“I feel very happy,” said Kang. “Now I just want to go back to Malaysia and enjoy the food and see my family. I’m quite surprised, it’s a dream come true.”

“In the third game we tried to kept the focus on each point and not give up. There was pressure (when the Chinese saved three match points) but I tried to handle it, I tried to calm him down.”

Hu, Xu Win Singles

Women’s singles winner Xu Wen Jing

China were assured of both singles titles. Men’s singles top seed Hu Zhe An was dominant from start to finish over compatriot Wang Zi Jun, wrapping up the match 21-15 21-18, but women’s singles third seed Xu Wen Jing had to work harder for her win over Yin Yi Qing.

Yin threatened to take the match in straight games, but once Xu held her off, the final game was one-sided as the 14th seed looked exhausted.

“I wanted to be champion, so I’d put pressure on myself,” said Hu Zhe An. “I felt tense at the beginning, but after I got the lead, I got my attack going. It’s my last junior tournament, so it’s a great ending. Last year, in the first few months, I was in a bad situation. That was a hard time. But after the Asian Junior Championships I felt everything got better and better. Now I feel ready for the senior level. There are many chances now at the senior level, beginning with the Super 100, so I will focus on these tournaments.”

Other Results

China won the opening match of finals day, with big-hitter Lin Xiang Yi and partner Liu Yuan Yuan easing past Chinese Taipei’s Lai Po Yu/Liang Ching Sun 21-18 21-14.

Japanese No.4 seeds Ririna Hiramoto/Aya Tamaki denied Malaysia’s Low Zi Yu the chance to make history as the youngest-ever world junior champion. Hiramoto/Tamaki beat Low and Dania Sofea 21-17 21-17.

What They Said

Lin Xiang Yi & Liu Yuan Yuan

“My partner Lin is in two events, so my goal was to play at a high level to relieve him of the pressure. Although we lost the Mixed Team final, I didn’t feel bad as the silver is still a good achievement. This is my last junior year, so this is a very big accomplishment.” – Liu Yuan Yuan

“I played the first and second games really well. I thought I could finish it in the second game, but I wasn’t patient enough. After the interval in the third game, I couldn’t keep up as I have been playing three games through this week. I’m 16, so I have more chances coming up.” – Yin Yi Qing

“This means a lot for me and for China women’s singles, as it’s been eight years since we won the title. Also, I like Chen Yu Fei, so it’s nice that I was able to repeat her title win from 2016.” – Xu Wen Jing

Arctic Open: Goh/Izzuddin Stay Hot

Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin are looking unstoppable at the moment.

The in-form Malaysians smashed another barrier by defeating CLASH ROYALE Arctic Open 2024 top seeds Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang for the first time in four meetings on Saturday. The come-from-behind 19-21 21-17 21-18 win sent them into their third final in five tournaments.

“We prepared well, we weren’t thinking about the result. The focus was on giving our best and that was key. We were calm and enjoyed the game,” said Goh post-match.

The bout against defending champions Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen at Energia Arena today would mark the fourth final of the season for the world No.8s. Now independent shuttlers, they arrived in Vantaa having won the Japan and China Opens, their maiden Super 750 and Super 1000 titles respectively.

“We’ve improved our communication a lot since reuniting and that’s been beneficial,” said Izzuddin. “We are quite happy with our performance but the job isn’t done yet. There’s another test to go, so keep focus.”

Second seeds Astrup/Rasmussen advanced after seeing off qualifiers Kittinupong Kedren/Dechapol Puavaranukroh 21-14 21-19 in a later clash. Despite their 6-1 record, the world No.2 Danes are wary of their final opponents.

“You can’t rely on just a single tactic, you need to be good all over the court to beat those guys. It’s about raising our level one more time to give ourselves a chance,” said Rasmussen.

This is Goh and Izzuddin’s first Super 500 final. Currently, they are the only player or pair from their country with a title each at the other three levels (1000, 750 and 300) of the HSBC BWF World Tour.

WHAT OTHERS SAID

“I’m grateful I can play the final. Already, I want to show what I really have and what I’ve trained for. I hope to enjoy every moment on court.” – Ratchanok Intanon on reaching her first title match since winning the Spain Masters in March

“He’s my friend, we respect each other. It will be a friendly tussle but that won’t make it any easier. I must prepare for a psychological battle.” – Chou Tien Chen on playing Jonatan Christie for the men’s singles crown

“The most important thing about playing in Europe is adjusting to the time difference. But with Finland, it’s not that big a change from China so it’s easier for us to handle it.” – Jiang Zhen Bang on making another final in Vantaa

“It was just a cramp. That’s normal because it was a taxing match. Nothing serious.” – Pearly Tan on her injury

World Juniors: Malaysia Disrupt Chinese Surge

Malaysia’s Low Zi Yu and Dania Sofea disrupted a sequence of wins by hosts China on the penultimate day of the BWF World Junior Championships 2024. Their example was followed in the last match by men’s doubles compatriots Kang Khai Xin/Aaron Tai, who too stopped a Chinese pair after the home team’s surge through the day.

Low and Sofea’s upset of the top seeds prevented a Chinese sweep of five titles that was on the cards; women’s doubles is the only final that the hosts missed out on.

Kang Khai Xin and Aaron Tai

The Malaysians, who partnered in January and were at their first tournament together, were the underdogs in the contest against Chen Fan Shu Tian/Liu Jia Yue but stood up to the challenge.

Low, one of the youngest in the competition at just 14, showed maturity beyond her age and kept up an attacking barrage from the back, while the more diminutive Sofea created all the opportunities at the front.

The Malaysians had to endure some heart-stopping moments at the end. Facing nine match points, the Chinese kept chipping away at the lead before Sofea came up with a sharp winner, 16-21 21-16 21-17.

We are very happy as we didn’t think we could win this match. We just wanted to play our best,” said Low.

“At the end when it got close, we told each other it’s OK, just stay focussed, don’t make simple mistakes. We had a big lead but when they got close we were so nervous. We were very happy to get that final point.”

Of their approach against the Chinese, Sofea said: “We just wanted to keep the attack. Their defence is very good, so we just had to follow the shuttle when we were on attack. We had to pick up the speed in the second game as our coach told us that we had to be faster than them.”

Ubaidillah Dazzles but Falters

Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah

In the men’s singles, Indonesia’s Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah dazzled with his skills, but failed to put on the finishing touches against Wang Zi Jun. The Chinese was frequently caught out by Ubaidillah’s deft touch, but sheer athleticism helped him prolong the points. The 21-19 22-20 contest was the standout match of the semifinals.

Wang Zi Jun faces last year’s runner-up He Zhe An, who said his eyes were on the title this time.

“I’m grateful for what I experienced last year – that’s why I’m here. My level was not as strong as this year. This time I’m going for gold,” said Hu Zhe An.

Chinese Surge

Lin Xiang Yi & Liu Yuan Yuan

» Apart from the women’s doubles, China stormed past the other opposition. Lin Xiang Yi gave himself a shot at a double after making the mixed doubles final with Liu Yuan Yuan and the men’s doubles final with Hu Ke Yuan.

» Chinese Taipei’s Lai Po Yu/Liang Ching Sun stand in Lin Xiang Yi/Liu Yuan Yuan’s way in the mixed doubles final.

» Women’s singles top seed Sarunrak Vitidsarn had an opportunity to extend her match to a third game, but third seed Xu Wen Jing closed it out 21-12 24-22 to make it an all-China final against 14th seed Yin Yi Qing.

Arctic Open: Watanabe Ends Lee’s Reign

Koki Watanabe kept his record against Paris 2024 bronze medalist Lee Zii Jia unblemished, winning their third encounter 21-15 13-21 21-12 at CLASH ROYALE Arctic Open 2024 on Friday.

The Japanese world No.14, whose previous two victories over the third seed were in straight games, took advantage after Lee’s mobility seemed affected following an awkward fall in the opener. Despite winning the second game, Lee was not moving freely and Watanabe closed out the third in 22 minutes to advance to a semifinal clash against Chou Tien Chen.

Chinese Taipei’s Chou came through an 87-minute marathon against rising French youngster Alex Lanier 22-20 13-21 21-19 to reach the final.

Lee is the only defending champion to bow out, with Han Yue, Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning and Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Doing Ping all clearing their last eight hurdles.

Lee’s focus now shifts to next week’s Denmark Open.

Highlights:

  • China Open champions Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin continue good form with second consecutive win over Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.
  • Ratchanok Intanon returns to Super 500 semifinal after over a year, beating compatriot Supanida Katethong in three games.
  • Fellow Thai Kunlavut Vitidsarn avenges China Open last-four defeat to Kodai Naraoka with a straight-games win of his own.

PART 1 – practical information on the steps towards the elections.

PART 2 – overview of the BWF Council, its role and duties of Council members.
This second part helps nominees for election to understand what it means to be a BWF Council member, the requirements and time commitment.

Please circulate this guide to potential nominees for the Council elections 2025.

4. Vetting of Nominees for Elections

Every Nominee must be vetted by the Independent Vetting Panel (IVP) to determine if a Nominee is Eligible to become a Candidate for the elections.

“Eligibility” is determined through a vetting process.

  • Each Nominee must complete Form C – Vetting Declaration Form by the Closing Date for Nominations (midnight, 6 December 2024).
  • This information is used in the vetting process by the IVP.
  • The IVP uses the information provided (and any information they might collect through a third party provider (background checks) to determine if a Nominee is “Eligible” as described in the Eligibility Criteria of the BWF Vetting Rules (BWF Constitution, Appendix II – Clause 2.3).
  • If vetting is successful, the IVP will declare the Nominee “Eligible”.
  • Their status will then change from Nominee to Candidate for the elections.

All BWF Council Members must be and remain “Eligible” in accordance with the BWF Vetting Rules (BWF Constitution, Appendix II – Clause 2.3).
